How It Started

I retired from an IT job at the end of 2019. My mind and body were begging for change. I had been stressed at work, wasn’t sleeping well, and despite working out fairly regularly, didn’t feel particularly fit. Of course, I wanted to spend time doing things I enjoyed, like traveling and pursuing creative avenues, but I also wanted to get fit and live a healthier life.

Then Covid hit and my gym closed. I didn’t want to fall behind, so I began a fitness routine at home since we were stuck there anyway. A new program took shape combining diet, mindfulness, and exercise. I began incorporating Yoga and meditation into my workouts. And my husband and I began cooking many more meals from scratch. All of this helped improve my mental, emotional and physical health and create habits that are bringing balance and strength to my life.

How It's Going

I still work out a minimum of five days a week and regularly incorporate mindfulness and breathing exercises. My diet has improved, though I do have my cheats on occasion (namely Chili Cheese Fritos). I am reading about Zen philosophy and trying to bring those practices into my life as well. And I’m working on turning my focus towards being grateful and more positive. It’s a work in progress, and every new day is a chance to continue that work. I wake up feeling energized and clear-headed, and I have found that wellness goals can be realized as long as you’re consistent and keep it simple.
